Tucson is located in the heart of Southern Arizona in an area known as the Sonoran Desert. Tucson is about 100 miles south of the state capital of Phoenix, and about 60 miles north of the Mexican border. The city sits at about 2,400 feet above sea level, and the metropolitan area covers nearly 600 square miles. Approximately 1 million people call Tucson home.
